Mor Figma Thoughts

Today I came across this

Which is a bit rage-baity maybe, but at the same time just absolutely captures a lot of my frustration related to web designers being so unaware of the medium they are designing for. With better words, I think. And look maybe I don’t fully agree with this take, IMO designers don’t need to learn to “code”, if by that we mean the whole over-complicated dev stack, with a thousand Node dependencies or whatever — Heck they mostly don’t need JS at all probably, much less React or whatever, but some basic HTML and CSS goes a loooong way towards them being able to comprehend the medium within which their ideas need to be executed.

But, the author of that post and I clearly agree that Figma is getting to be too much, too relied on, too much “the tool”

Also today a designer shared this with me, and was fully surprised when I did not share the “so cool!” reaction.

Look, vibe coding is already becoming a goddam problem. Leveraging Figma to do it is getting too real - and could really make this a loooot worse.

I’m absolutely concerned that the job of web developers is going to evolve into one dominated by sifting through half working toppling towers of “AI” slop
